Shabbat is no longer the day Jews spend in the synagogue. On the contrary: numbers mostly decline. Increasingly people attend those ceremonies that mark rites de passage, classically the ceremonies for birth, adulthood, marriage and death. With its high attendance by a new audience not versed in Judaism, these and other less traditional occasions offer multiple liturgical and homiletic challenges and new opportunities for its functionaries. We will focus on Bney and Banot Mitzvah and Chuppah.

Goals:

- To preach in a modern liturgical context to a modern audience,

- apply the structure of traditional liturgy creatively,

- develop an idea for a sermon according to the homiletic model.
