The course builds on concepts taught in the classes Microeconomics I, Microeconomics II, and Advanced Microeconomics.
A final exam will be held at the end of the term.
This lecture provides an introduction to development economics. Starting from this general introduction, it will focus on market failure, in particular in the form of market power, as an impediment to countries’ economic development. We will study the relevance of competition policy / competition law for addressing this form of market failure. Similarly, we will learn how to analyze market power using models from industrial organization.
