How do we as speakers produce or as listeners hear sounds when we communicate with others in English? To understand what physiological (i.e. articulatory and auditory) processes are involved, this course focuses on the study of English sounds. We will also compare phonetic features of British English with American English and examine the similarities/differences of the two sound inventories. This course will be particularly relevant for future English teachers and professionals using English on a daily basis to improve their own (and others’) English pronunciation skills. We will investigate how stress and intonation patterns further shape the phonological system of English.

Prerequisites: Successful completion of the Grund-/Basismodul, depending on your study program
