This basic course will focus on the ability of language to accomplish action. In particular, we will study the use of English as a tool for communication in a range of work contexts. Based on the approach of Interactional Linguistics, we will survey a number of lexical and syntactic forms in English and their usage in particular contexts. Moreover, participants will encounter practical examples of English at work in Germany, including schools, and we will discuss the challenges of using English as a foreign language.
