Afropolitanism - Einzelansicht

This course focuses on recent debates about afropolitanism, a newly coined term promising uniquely African perspectives on the cosmopolitan tradition. Apart from engaging with the intellectual history of afropolitanism and cosmopolitanism, we will ask, in particular, how conceptual problems are spelled out in the domain of aesthetics and (fictional) literature. Please note that in this seminar you will have to cope with an intense reading load, including at least two novels as well as broad reading in theory and secondary literature. Throughout the course, you will be expected to be able to comment on the reading assignments, and there will be spontaneous quizzes to test your preparation of the material. Additional requirements: a brief oral presentation and two papers: a) minutes of a session and b) a response paper with research questions.
