This seminar is designed as an introduction to teaching literary texts to FL learners at all stages. Students will examine ways of teaching short literary forms in the FL classroom and consider the value and suitability of a wide range of genres, including the traditional short story or fable, as well as poems, songs, comics or urban legends.
We will study theoretical texts and discuss approaches that have been proposed in educational research and course books. In order to make literature accessible to pupils, we will also deal with a wide range of methods that help making literary texts a pleasure to read and discuss. In the second half of the semester, students will get the chance to suitable materials themselves and develop micro-teaching units, which will be discussed during the seminar.
