Aspectual particles - Einzelansicht

It is now possible to register this course as either MM3 or MM7. The course can be held in English or German.

Course requirements: (almost) weekly readings, moderation of one discussion, term paper

In this course, we will read and discuss semantic papers on the topic of so-called "aspectual particles", i.e. particles like "still / noch" and "already / schon" in (1)

(1)   a.  It is still raining      / Es regnet noch
       b. It is already raining  / Es regnet schon

The course will include topics needed in order to understand the semantics of these particles, for example:

• Non-truthconditional meaning: presuppositions & implicatures
• Focus and focus-sensitivity
• Tense, aspect, Aktionsart
• Adjectives and comparatives

In addition, we will discuss how to elicit data concerning these particles.
