The course focuses on representations of multicultural London with perhaps the arrival of the Empire Windrush on June 21, 1948 as a central reference point marking a new quality of migration as a social, economic, political and cultural factor in the British empire. Writers of first, second and third generation diasporic background (but not exclusively) will be in the centre of our discussions, always from perspectives that problematise aspects of gender and ethnic identity next to analyses of aesthetic qualities.
