Grammar has always been a strongly debated topic in language teaching. Even in today’s communicative language classroom with its central goal of developing intercultural communicative competence the teaching of grammar plays an important role; simply because communication without grammar is unfeasible. So the question that will guide us through our seminar is not whether grammar should be taught but which aspects teachers have to take into account when teaching grammar. Therefore we will have a look at current research findings to indentify (new) approaches for grammar teaching that fit the needs of a communicative language classroom. Our seminar will follow a hands-on approach as we will transfer our findings into the planning of an English workshop for eighth-graders. This workshop will be offered on June 13, 2017.
