In this course, we will explore a subgenre of utopian fiction, the dystopia, in contemporary writing from the USA. Students will be required to read three novels, as well as supplementary theoretical texts, but the course also puts special emphasis on creative writing as a means to further skills in literary analysis, an to employ literary analysis for creative production. Note that this is a block-seminar, taught on three consecutive weekends, with the final assignment being written in the course on the final date. An introduction to the course format will be held on the 21.04. All prospective participants have to attend this meeting. Students are required to familiarize themselves with the reading material before the first session on the 10.06. The date of the final exam may be moved, should all participants agree on an alternative date.
