Please follow the "comment" link above for more information on comments, course readings, course requirements and grading.Just as any other language, English has not developed in total isolation. During its world-wide expansion, it has come in contact with a multitude of other languages and cultures. In this seminar, we will examine how contact-induced changes and processes have influenced and shaped the varieties of English (in the past and present). After a theoretical introduction to the field of contact linguistics, students will be required to work on their own small-scale research projects and present their findings in class at the end of the semester. Please note that the first session of this course will take place on Oct. 26, 2017 (week #2).
