In the short history of the Digital Humanities (DH), the ongoing transformation of scholarship through digitization and the curation as well as implementation of digital repositories has largely privileged the work of canonical writers and artists from North America and Western Europe. This tendency reflects and reifies the history of colonialism which has either underappreciated or exploited cultural artifacts from the former colonies. This seminar will discuss how the digital transformation raises postcolonial questions and will inquire whether the tools and methods of the digital humanities can indeed further the project of decolonization. We will explore postcolonial interventions of digital literature as well as reflections of the digital in contemporary postcolonial writing, born-digital artistic work as well as digital scholarship.
