WEGEN DER JÜDISCHEN FEIERTAGE BEGINNT DIE LEHRVERANSTALTUNG ERST AM 28.10.2019.In this course we shall engage in exegesis, interpretation and analysis of ed texts from the Tanakh. We will pay attention to literary, cultural, and religious dimensions of this great library from ancient Israel. The Creation and the Flood, the Torah and the Tabernacle, the early and the late history of Israel, the psalms, prophecy and wisdom - these are some of the aspects that we shall explore with the help of a team of scholars assembled in the book required in the course: Adele Berlin and Marc Brettler, eds., The Jewish Study Bible (second edition, 2014, Oxford University Press). This book includes: • The JPS English translation of the Tanakh • A brief, running commentary (with brief introductions), by various scholars, to the biblical books • Topical essays on methodology, background, history and key themes.
