This course is open to bachelor students and provides an introductory overview of the field of bilingualism, considering bilingualism from a range of different perspectives including those of linguistics, psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics and sociolinguistics. Specific topics to be covered include: bilingual research methods; bilingual mental models; bilingual linguistic and cognitive development; second language acquisition; bilingualism and executive functioning; multilingual processing and aging; bilingualism and language disorders; and code switching.
