Rereading the Bible in The Eyes of the Sages In this course, we will explore the different ways the Talmudic sages have read the Bible. What were their (free!) hermeneutic concepts? Why did they move quite often from the simple meaning of the Biblical text? Core hermeneutical questions will accompany our discussion on these texts in the class, but the main question that will bother us will be: Did the rabbis read the Bible in what we see as "rational eyes" or was the leading concept an "associative reading"?
The course will be conducted in English, accompanied by Hebrew texts.
