This seminar is focused on the empirical analysis of populist parties in Europe. The course is split in a theoretical part, where definitions, origins, effects and variety of populist parties will be discussed, and an "application" part, where populist parties will be analysed using publicly available datasets. The statistical software R is used. Basic knowledge of R is recommended, although for those without prior knowledge, there will be materials such as books and tutorials made available for preparation. Note, though, that without any prior knowledge in R, the workload in this seminar will probably be larger for you.
