It is not often that Judaism and Buddhism are compared from a history-of-religions perspectives, but I hope to show that it is a meaningful project. We shall not deal with dialogue between these traditions, but rather explore the fruitfulness of a comparative approach to basic themes. The course will be taught in English, and based on examples from classical texts. We shall also read some scholarly texts that contextualize the material.
Students are expected to participate in class discussions based on the reading assignments. There will be some brief writing exercises and presentations. A five-page final essay is to be submitted at the end of the course
