This course provides a comprehensive comparative analysis of contemporary far-right movements, political parties and ideologies in a variety of global contexts, examining the rise and increasing influence of far-right politics as a significant global trend. The analysis will focus on several key themes, including family and gender politics, globalisation versus national sovereignty, neoliberalism and class struggle, migration and affective nationalism (hate, fear, resentment), and culture wars. These issues will be explored not only through theoretical texts, but also by drawing on evidence from major far-right cases such as the AfD in Germany, Trump in the US, Bolsonaro in Brazil, Putin in Russia, and Erdogan in Turkey, among others.
