This course highlights enslaved women’s articulations of and attempts at resistance in antebellum (North-)America and beyond. It will zoom in on the chances and limitations of tracing gendered resistance within the archive of slavery and — next to well-known (historical) sources and figures — trace undertheorized and undertaught ones.Required readings for this class will be made available on moodle. If you want to start early on your reading email me for the moodle password (joheide@uni-potsdam.de).
Depending on whether you are enrolled in this course as part of Aufbaumodul A (6 LP) or Aufbaumodul B (9 LP), you will have to complete the following forms of assessment: active participation, short paper, presentation+written handout or second short paper, long paper.
