1. General Comment
The current situation requires all of us to adapt our teaching formats and working methods in order to ensure an instructive and interesting semester even without classroom instruction. This means for you that this semester we will turn our courses completely into online formats and the focus will be more on self-study than usual, this applies to all classes conducted at the Chair of German Politics and Government.
Important note: IPlease register for the seminar via PULS by 24.04.2020 (18.00h) at the latest. Only then can you be considered for the allocation of places. 2. Seminar description
This seminar addresses recent debates in political science and public administration research on policy formulation and service delivery in the digital age. It is almost a truism that governments and public sectors worldwide not only need to adapt and apply novel information and communication technologies (ICT) such as big data analytics via machine learning and the utilization of artificial intelligence but that they are also crucial actors in shaping the future governance of such digital tools by governments, businesses, non-state actors, and societies at large. We discuss key theoretical perspectives explaining these governmental activities and we compare the current state of digital governance in various political settings, incl. the US and the EU.
