This course teaches basic knowledge and skills on concepts of entrepreneurship and venture creation. After completion the participating students will have an understanding of entrepreneurial thinking and its application in business contexts. They will be able to identify a business opportunity by various means and present it with the help of an idea canvas. Team work will be a crucial component in order to successfully complete the course. Students are going to organize themselves in groups and solve predefined challenges by coming up with business ideas. Furthermore, at the end of the term participants will have learned to pitch their idea to a professional audience. 

Important information and course materiales are going to be provided on MOODLE. Next to the registration on PULS (puls.uni-potsdam.de) the registration on MOODLE is mandatory (moodle.uni-potsdam.de). Students must register for the lectures (Vorlesung), seminars (Übung) and the final exam (Klausur) in PULS according to the given deadlines throughout the semester.

It is extremely important that all students are present in the Zoom-Meeting on the 14th of April 2021 for the first lecture and seminar. On that day the topics on which the students will be working on are going to be introduced, as well as the divison in teams for the semesters group work will start.

Module Examination

  • Final Exam (duration: 90 minutes)

For the overall completion of this course students must pass all three team work submissions within the tutorial (Übung): Persona, Value Proposition Canvas and Elevator Pitch and pass the final exam.

Lerninhalte

This course covers what aspiring entrepreneurs need to know to identify business opportunities and shape their business ideas with the help of various means of customer discovery. Students will work in teams, undertake interviews with potential customers, synthesize the collected data into a ”persona” and evaluate possible solutions with the help of the value proposition canvas. Finally, they will pitch their business ideas in form of an elevator pitch.

The lectures and tutorials are closely intertwined, enabling the students to not only understand but also apply and experience entrepreneurial thinking and doing.

 

Learning goals of this course will be, that students…

  • have basic expertise and knowledge of well-known concepts of entrepreneurship and venture-creation,
  • have developed an understanding of entrepreneurial thinking and doing in business and everyday life and are able to apply this,
  • are able to develop a business opportunity using various methods and present its main features on a value proposition canvas and a persona canvas,
  • have the ability to organize themselves in small groups and to work on topics independently (teamwork),
  • are able to work on given topics and present them to a professional audience in form of an elevator pitch (presentation techniques).
