The syntax of sharing constructions - Einzelansicht

In this seminar we will investigate the syntax of sharing constructions such as across-the-board-movement, right-node raising and parasitic gaps. These are constructions derived by A'-movement (e.g., wh-movement) in which a single antecedent seems to be related to several gaps (while usually there is a strict 1:1 relation between antecedent and gap in such dependencies). We will critically discuss formal approaches that have been proposed to derive these constructions, learn which phenomena might be used to empirically support these approaches, and more generally, we will learn how to probe syntactic structure.
