Modul: Introduction to International War Studies

This module will:

• provide an overview over themes, concepts, and trends in the field of war studies and familiarize students with required methods for their further studies
• offer introductory lectures on various topics from Ancient to Contemporary History and the interconnection of war and society
• discuss basic problems of studying war in historiopgrahical and contemporary perspective

Upon completion, the students will

• possess wide-ranging knowledge on historical, political and sociological concepts for futher courses in the MA
• possess in-depth expertise on key methods required for historical, political or sociological research
• be able to analyze complex historical and contemporary issues related to war and political violence
• be able to assess, analyze and understand academic texts in different disciplines and express their thoughts on complex issues in written and in oral form

The lecture, the seminars and the exams will be conducted in English.
