The course addresses both beginners and advanced students in the field of American studies. It is designed to complement a number of introductory and thematic courses by introducing students to a number of recurrent motifs and narratives of the American culture and American cultural studies. The course also introduces students to a variety of opposing readings, questioning the ideology and inclusiveness of American central myths and beliefs. In addition, students will be encouraged to engage in close readings of literary texts.
