Allgemeine Hinweise / General Remarks
An essential requirement of the class is the mandatory paper readings. There will be one paper assigned for every lecture. You must read this paper extremely carefully. We will discuss this paper at length in class. Instead of presenting details of the paper, we will assume everyone has read it and discuss specific details of the paper. Cold-calling should be expected and participation will be required.

A list of literature will be delivered mid-March 2014.

Seminar paper, give a commentary on another paper, active participation.

The seminar will discuss selected problems of development theory and policy. Among them are the concepts of poverty, poverty measurement and poverty alleviation strategies, e.g. pro poor growth. All participants will be asked to play an active role in setting up the course program by adding topics of common interest which will be integrated into the course program. The language of discussion and the presentations will be in English.
