Paulus zwischen Juden und Christen - Einzelansicht

Dass Jesus Jude war ist heute weitgehender Konsens, während Paulus vielfach als derjenige angesehen wird, der den im Gegensatz zum Judentum stehenden Christus-Glauben in die sogenannt hellenistische Welt vermittelte und damit eine neue Religion etablierte. Eine wichtige Grundlage dieses Paulus-Bildes ist die Analyse und Interpretation der kulturellen und sprachlichen Vielfalt des Mittelmeerraumes seiner Zeit mit Hilfe unterschiedlicher gegenwärtiger Kulturtheorien, wobei dem Synkretismus-Modell des Hellenismus häufig ein Deutungsprimat zugesprochen wird. Dieses Paulus-Bild wird in diesem Seminar auf der Basis neuerer kulturtheoretischer Ansätze zu interkultureller und transkultureller Interaktion unter Einbezug von Identitäts-und Machtfragen kritisch hinterfragt. Paulus und seine Aktivitäten werden dabei als primär im Judentum seiner Zeit eingebettet und nicht im Gegensatz zu diesem verstanden. Studierenden wird ein Zugang zu interreligiösen und interkulturellen Begegnungen und Auseinandersetzungen im 1. Jahrhundert u.Z. in ihrer historischen und gegenwärtigen Relevanz und neue Zugänge zum Verständnis der Rolle des Paulus in diesem Kontext vermittelt.

That Jesus was a Jew is widely acknowledged now. Paul on the other hand is seen as the one who was the founder of Christianity as a religion in opposition to Judaism and who transmitted this new religion into the Greek world of the Roman Empire. This image of the role of Paul is mainly based on the interpretation of the cultural and linguistic diversity of the Mediterranean through recent theories of cultures. The paradigm of Hellenism as a syncretism or confluence of cultures is attributed a primary relevance thereby. This traditional image of Paul will be critically questions through alternative theories of culture which address issues of intercultural and transcultural interaction in the context of identity and power discourses in antiquity. Paul and his activities are seen as part of Jewish tradition of the first century CE. Students will be introduced to interreligious and intercultural interactions of the first century in their historical as well as contemporary relevance and learn how understanding of processes of that period and their interpretation impact on contemporary issues, including Jewish-Christian relations.
