Klausur, 90 Minuten
This lecture offers a comprehensive introduction to global political economy (GPE), combining theory, history, and contemporary issues and debates. Being based on the expert opinions conveyed in Ravenhill (2016) – Global Political Economy the students are introduced to the diversity of perspectives in GPE. Starting from the historical roots of GPE, we will discuss the global trade regime as well as the international financial system. We will critically examine the effects of globalization and address specific issues such as the political economy of development.
The students will be encouraged to unpack claims and challenge explanations. After this course, they shall have acquired in-depth knowledge about the state-of-the-art research in GPE. The accompanying tutorial will help the students to single out the relevant questions of GPE, understand why answering these questions is important for practice, and how to find and assess the quality of recent research on these topics.
