This seminar thematizes land relations in various forms, with a particular focus on colonial and decolonial histories. Beginning with the North American context, we will study settler colonialism, Indigenous Land relations (including conceptions of land-based learning or “Land as Pedagogy”), and Black geographies. Building on this work, the second part of the seminar asks about land relations in the context of Potsdam and Berlin. This section will include a postcolonial tour of Park Sanssouci, a visit to the Potsdam Botanical Garden, and a guest lecture on the possibility of decolonial mapping (of Berlin city streets, histories, and relations).
