Dr. Prickett's section (Group 7, Tuesdays 14 - 16) is an in-person course with Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) components (with Beit Berl College, Israel).The course is primarily designed for Englisch Lehramt and B2 Anglistik/Amerikanistik students. However, students who are not Englisch Lehramt or B2 Anglistik/Amerikanistik students but who are eligible to earn Studiumplus credits can earn credit in the module "Ba-SK-Z-3 - Interkulturelle Kommunikation" by taking Dr. Prickett's section of this course.

Laut aktueller Modulbeschreibung ist die regelmäßige Anwesenheit obligatorisch. Die Anwesenheit in den sprachpraktischen Lehrveranstaltungen ist dringend erforderlich, weil andernfalls die Lernziele nicht erreicht werden können und eine Leistungserfassung im Sinne der Prüfungsordnung nicht möglich ist.
In accordance with University of Potsdam policy (§ 17 BAMA(LA)-O), the Department of English / Philology has defined the unauthorized the use of AI tools, including ChatGPT, to complete graded assessments or exams in the Department's courses. It is unauthorized to use AI to formulate arguments or to summarize or contextualize source materials or to incorporate any part of an AI-generated response in a graded assignment or exam. Such unauthorized use is, by definition, a "Täuschung," and will be dealt with accordingly.
In this course students should master oral communication of an informative, explanatory, and persuasive nature through presenting. Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able- to understand and identify the principles of various presentation formats- to structure and present academic and professional presentations effectively - to develop a central argument and to support it with compelling subpoints- to formulate coherent ideas and opinions and express them precisely and succinctly- to use appropriate transitions and signposting language to help the audience navigate a presentation- to integrate and correctly reference credible sources as evidence for their argumentation- to strengthen their verbal delivery using appropriate pronunciation features (e.g., chunking, emphatic stress, etc.) and non-verbal language for advanced communicative competence- to feel confident in posing and responding to questions during a presentation
Students are required to participate in weekly class discussions. Independent study is an integral component of the course. Students are strongly encouraged to attend the English Language Café. (Your instructor will provide you with information; see also the departmental website.)
