This Year's Seminar Topic: Behavioural Public Economics and its Implications for Environmental Policy
This seminar aims to familiarize students with the most recent research advancements on behavioural public economics and its significance for environmental policymaking. Learning is designed around the discussion of a selected paper published in a leading economics journal and shall facilitate (i) conducting own independent research in their master's thesis and (ii) critically evaluating existing research.
We will focus on potential consumer behavioural biases and their implications for welfare and the design of environmental policies. We explore how factors such as myopia, salience effects, or social norms shape consumer decision-making processes. Furthermore, we analyze real-world applications of these insights within environmental policy contexts.
This seminar will consist of three introductory sessions in April followed by two full-day seminar blocks in June, during which students will present and discuss selected papers.
