Lorraine Mannion's section (Gr. 3, Mon 16-18) will focus on the topic of intercultural communication. Students that are not interested in this subject area are advised to attend a different course.

It is unauthorized to use AI to formulate arguments or to summarize or contextualize source materials or to incorporate any part of an AI-generated response in a graded assignment or exam. Such unauthorized use is, by definition, a "Täuschung," and will be dealt with accordingly.
In this course students should master oral communication of an informative, explanatory, and persuasive nature through presenting. Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able- to understand and identify the principles of various presentation formats- to structure and present academic and professional presentations effectively - to develop a central argument and to support it with compelling subpoints- to formulate coherent ideas and opinions and express them precisely and succinctly- to use appropriate transitions and signposting language to help the audience navigate a presentation- to integrate and correctly reference credible sources as evidence for their argumentation- to strengthen their verbal delivery using appropriate pronunciation features (e.g., chunking, emphatic stress, etc.) and non-verbal language for advanced communicative competence- to feel confident in posing and responding to questions during a presentation
Students are required to participate in weekly class discussions. Independent study is an integral component of the course. Students are strongly encouraged to attend the English Language Café. (Your instructor will provide you with information; see also the departmental website.)
