This seminar is a bit of an experiment. For the first time, we intend to explore the theme of colonialism together with students from the University of Pretoria in South Africa. As the subject is very broad, we want to focus specifically on how intellectuals have been, and continue to be, alienated within colonial structures.
To this end, we will read texts by Gramsci, Rodney, Memmi, Fanon and others, which should help us to understand the relationship between intellectuals and colonialism. The aim is to uncover past and present colonial structures and to highlight their impact on the production of knowledge.
Methodologically, the aim is for students from both universities to collaborate and engage in an exchange. The seminar can only take place if interested students from both sides come together.
