This course is obligatory to all students of English philology and has to be taken as the basis for all further courses in the field of literature. It aims at an introduction to contemporary critical understanding of literature/texts (including: introduction to critical terminology and to main contemporary approaches to literary analysis, teaching basic techniques and methods of scientific work, etc.) This course provides a survey of the most important literary genres (poetry, narrative texts, drama, and film). On the basis of a ion of texts, prosody, narrative theories, theories of drama, and approaches to film analysis will be discussed. The course ends with an obligatory written test. A successful passing of this course is the precondition for any participation in further courses/modules in the field of literature.

Die Einschreibung für diesen Kurs und die Parallelkurse (sowohl Introduction to Literary Studies als auch Introduction to Cultural

Studies) findet persönlich in der Zeit vom 9.-11. Oktober 2013 von

10:00-15:00 Uhr statt. Die Anmeldelisten hängen Am Neuen Palais, Haus

19 (Institut für Anglistik und Amerikanistik) im Erdgeschoss am schwarzen Brett gegenüber von Raum 0.22 aus. Die Anzahl der Teilnehmenden ist für jede Veranstaltung auf 40 Personen begrenzt. Die Reihenfolge der Anmeldung entscheidet über das Belegen des Kurses.

Bitte tragen Sie sich nicht für mehrere Kurse desselben Kurstyps ein.

Härtefälle, etc. besprechen Sie bitte mit den Kursleitern direkt.

Enrolment for this course and the other introductory courses

(literature/culture) will take place from October 9-11 from 10:00

a.m.-3:00 p.m. You must sign up for this class personally. Sign up lists will be posted Am Neuen Palais, Building 19 (Department of English and American Studies) on the notice board opposite room 0.22.

The number of participants in each course is limited to 40 students.

Please sign up only for one course of each course type. Should there be any problems, please contact the instructors directly.
