BA course - The Kindertransport, memory politics and present-day child refugees (19.0.31)
This course is concerned with the history and memory of the Kindertransport, the scheme which brought Jewish child refugees to Britain from Nazi Europe before the outbreak of the Second World War, the 80th anniversary of which is being celebrated in 2018/2019. On the basis of narratives and memoirs, we will consider how the scheme is remembered in the British public memory and is instrumentalised in discussions around migration, citizenship and belonging, and the so-called refugee crisis.
