By discussing and analysing English-language research literature and primary source material, this course will address the development of the concept of genocide (and alternative concepts) after 1945, individual instances of genocide in the post-war era (such as the Rwandan genocide of 1994) and other examples of suspected genocide (such as the mass killings in Indonesia in 1965/66). We will also attempt to place individual cases into a wider comparative framework. Classes will take place in English. Strong verbal and writing skills in English are essential for participation.
