In this course, students will be offered readings from various parts of the Hebrew Bible, ed for a reader with a basic competence in Biblical Hebrew and small to moderate experience with original texts. The ed texts will cover various genres of Biblical prose and poetry and will include excerpts from the Book of Genesis, Samuel 1, Book of Ruth, Psalms and Proverbs (other texts may be added by demand). The typical lesson will consist of each student taking a turn to read a verse in the original Hebrew, translate it to German or English and comment on its relevant grammatical features. Each week, students will be given texts for the next lesson to have a chance to prepare in advance if they choose (this is not obligatory). This course will be taught in German or English (or both), according to demand.
