The seminar will be in English, literature and references are in both English and German. It will be the attempt to demonstrate and explain the Afghanistan-Discourse
- For those in History, Military Studies, Social Science and Anthropology
- For those who are interested in deconstructing novels, biographies and reports, all by witnesses or local observers
“Official documents” do not allow deep insights into societal situations or the real stage in a wartime theatre. What we need is a context or cultural framing of situations and scenarios. Afghanistan is a puzzle that will be reconstructed by mutual challenging texts from veterans, journalists, politicians and writers of fiction. War reporting can be less “realistic” than condensed fictitious experiences in times of war and to learn reading between the lines is strengthening the competence of observers and consultants alike.
The ion of texts follows a didactic plan that may – hopefully – result in a modest edition of criticism and commentary for the use of conflict studies and their cultural context.
