This course will be taught completely online, using zoom. The course is designed for students who already have taken courses in statistics and psycholinguistics at Potsdam. You should have taken at least my introduction to statistics (taught in winter)  to take this course, and one of the MSc level psycholinguistic courses.

It turns out one cannot become a good experimental scientist without a good understanding of how to interpret one's data. This course will address the connection between science and data.

In each lecture, I will discuss case studies that will cover specific data-sets or phenomena in psycholinguistics. The goal will be to appreciate the tight coupling of statistical inference with scientific inference, i.e., that the scientific question really depends on how you do the statistical modeling. We will also look at how we can implement computational models of theories, using statistical modeling. Here, the goal is to understand how to formalize theories as computational models.  The broader goal in this course is to teach students to become fluent in the practical application of data analysis and *scientific* inference.
