Educational systems differ across countries. Various aspects, such as educational institutions, transitions, the structure of schooling, and curricula show a huge variety.
The seminar introduces the most important dimensions of differentiation.
We will also deal with the consequences of institutional arrangements for different outcomes, such as competence development, social background inequality and labour market transitions.
Course objectives:
- Getting familiar with the major lines of differentiation between educational systems
- Understanding how institutional arrangements influence micro-processes
Credit requirements:Preparation: Read the indicated literature and respond to the guiding questions. When? Second and third sessions (22/04 & 29/04) = 1 ECTS
Presentation Individual presentation based on one topic of your choice within the provided literature (15 min. length). When? Block sessions (17/06 & 24/06). = 2 ECTSSeminar paper: Seminar paper - describe the education system of one of the OECD countries - introduce your research question (based on the topic of your presentation)- review of the previous studies- discuss the theory and derive the hypotheses Approximately 9/10 pages – not including references/cover page/contents page etc. = 3 ECTS
Important!! You should not miss the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th sessions (22/04 & 29/04 & 13/05)
