The first lecture will start on Thursday, November 28, starting at 14:15. There will be no seminar during the first week of the semester, but the lecture will go a bit longer than usual including organisational issues.
The lectures will be on Thursdays, 14:15-15:45. There is a seminar in the module, in which the participants will give talks or a discussion contribution during the semester, focusing on topics from the recent IPCC assessment report (AR6). The seminars will directly follow the lectures, 16:00-17:30.
The course offers an overview of the most important topics of Atmospheric Science in the context of global change. The following topics are covered in this course: fundamental principles of Meteorology (meteorological elements, primitive equations, horizontal and vertical structures of the atmosphere); Atmospheric Dynamics; Weather Systems; Atmospheric Composition and Chemistry; Chemistry-Climate Interdependencies; as well as more in-depth topics like Extreme Air Pollution, Climate Geoengineering, Remote Sensing of the Atmosphere, and the connections between Atmospheric Science and Society. The seminar presentations will be based on the most recent IPCC WG-1 report. Recommended text book: „Atmospheric Science, an Introductory Survey“, by Wallace and Hobbs. (The book serves as good reference material for the first half of the course. After that mainly specialized literature will be used.)
