Neoliberalism - Einzelansicht

PLEASE NOTE:

It looks like this class will in fact be taught on site. However, to comply with Covid safety measures of social distancing, the seating possibilities have been restricted and only 20 students will fit into the seminar room.

Since we'll most likely end up with 30 students, I will split students up into two groups of 15 students and meet with each group every other week. Should the restrictions change in any way or should we remain a group of 20 students only , I will inform you about it as soon as possible. Further information about how we'll manage with two groups will be announced once enrollment has closed.

In this course, we will discuss how neoliberalism has shaped (and changed) almost all aspects of modern life, exploring how it has affected education, politics and how we work, but also people’s health and home(s). Over the course of the semester, the following questions will guide us: How has neoliberalism changed institutions (e.g. education, home, work)? How does it deal with (financial, climate, health) crisis? How has it shaped identity? How has it influenced literature and the arts and the stories they tell? With a focus on the US and the UK, we will engage with a variety of different texts, from academic literature to essays and interviews to short stories, lyrics and film. All readings will be made available via Moodle.
