Dear students,

We decided to hold the seminar in a hybrid-form including both offline sessions at Campus Griebnitzsee (3.06.H08) and online sessions. Please find the corresponding venues at the seminar schedule above. We also kindly ask you to keep a constant eye on the latest hygiene concept of the University and respective containment measures (https://www.uni-potsdam.de/en/presse/press/latest-news/coronavirus) which is binding for everyone - only this will allow for a proper realization of the seminar.

Please have in mind, as the circumstances are highly unpredictable and dynamic and everything might be subject to change - so please keep yourself up to date. No matter what, we are dedicated to offering you a seminar which enables you to learn as much as possible. Thank you!

Voraussetzungen

Interest in Social Media Marketing and research methods. This class is limited to 20 students; and takes place both in German and English. Presentations can be held in German or in English.

We highly recommend having attended the course "Social Media Research" at our chair before choosing this seminar. Despite offering a reminder wrap up session of systematic literature reviews, we expect basic knowledge and interest in this research methodology. Working through the proposed literature before the start of the course in addition to attending the input session will provide you with the basic knowledge.

Attendance is mandatory for each of these sessions!

Lerninhalte

THE COURSE STARTS ON 03.11.2021 at 10:15!

IMPORTANT: Please note that the course content has been adjusted from previous semesters - the delivery of the course is similar, however, the topics and methodologies have changed. This course is focusing on theoretical and research based aspects of social media marketing.

Social Media and in particular social networking sites have gained tremendous popularity (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, etc). Not only have they shaped interpersonal communication and information retrieval, but moreover, have become a central platform for marketing and hence a key channel to consider for businesses. Facebook alone has over 2.32 billion monthly active users and businesses have realized what marketing potential these platforms hold.

This course sheds light on the SNS marketing phenomenon from a research perspective. Conducting systematic literature reviews, you will dive into one specific SNS marketing topic and become an expert in this field. Potential topics include but are not limited to, influencers, virality, firestorms and advertisement reactions. Engaging with one topic throughout the seminar, you are encouraged to gain a deep understanding of the current status quo of research. Your task will be to implement a systematic literature review in order to present and evaluate your findings. Learning achievements will be presented and you are requested to write a seminar paper. The seminar will be held in English.

Zielgruppe

This course is open for all students from different disciplines.

Also, Erasmus students are very welcomed to register in our course.
