Student assignments
(these elements are required to pass, * only if you want a grade)
a. Quiz participation (20%)
b. Brief memo (15%)
c. Moderator role (10%)
d. * Term paper, first draft (10%; deadline: 31 May 2023, via moodle), Term paper presentation (5%; one of the last 3 sessions), Final version submission (40%, deadline: 30 August 2023, via moodle)

a. Quiz
The quizzes are made available on moodle 24hs before every session and need to be finished before the session (you may miss max. 3 quizzes).
Please note: As we convene with 2 consecutive sessions, you will find 2 quizzes available for each seminar week (corresponding to the sessions).

b. Brief memo
The memo-writers for the session also read the (*) text for the session and prepare a brief memo on this text (1 page, no references).
If more than one (*) text is available, you may pick one.
The memo should entail the key components of a review:
(a)  What is the research topic and what the research question?
(b)  Which theoretical argument is employed?
(c)  What is the research design?
(d)  Which methods and data are used (if any)?
(e)  What are the main findings and results?
(f)   Anything to comment, criticize, or question regarding (a) to (e)?

In sessions with more than one memo-writer, each memo-writer may hand in their own memo.
It is not a problem if more than one memo addresses the same text.
The memos have to be uploaded to moodle before class so that they are readily available for all participants.

c. Moderator
Each session will start with a joint discussion of the main text and proceeds to the empirical contribution(s) from the literature (texts marked with * and assessed in memos), in which we will also reflect upon the memos. The role of the moderator(s) is to chair, guide, and moderate the session and prompt remarks or questions to the class. A great moderator is prepared to guide the discussion of the main text (and has ”pointers” in their head) and to let all seminar participants enjoy partaking in the discussion.

d. Term paper
The term paper will be prepared in 2 stages or rather versions.
Version 1 will be a 2-3 pages document that entails an annotated bibliography. It will be uploaded via moodle until the deadline (31 May 2023) and is available to the professor only. A short presentation needs to be held about the term paper in one of the last 3 sessions (15min). The final version will be submitted via moodle on 30 August 2023.
