Introduction to English-Based Pidgins and Creoles - Einzelansicht

After an introduction to theories about the emergence of pidgins and creoles as well as the relevant terminology, students will be given an overview of the English-based pidgins and creoles that exist. A number of these varieties will then be dealt with in more detail. We will consider their historical emergence, their structural features, and their functional role in the context of their respective linguistic situation.

Will be provided in class.

One group presentation and a final written quiz.
