All the main controversies around Spinoza’s philosophy turned around his notion of God. While all commentaries drew along the patterns of Greek philosophy, and the Jewish reception merely compared such readings with established Jewish views, we will undertake a reading of Spinoza’s “knowledge of God” from within the Jewish tradition itself and introduce an entirely new understanding of Spinoza’s thought. We will read Part I of his major work, the Ethics, and look into his Compendium of the Grammar of the Hebrew Language.
