This course delves into the concept of linguistic landscape, with a particular focus on the rich linguistic diversity found in Cameroon. Through a mixture of theoretical ideas and case studies, students will explore how languages are visually represented in public spaces in Cameroon, how they reflect socio-cultural dynamics, and the role of linguistic diversity, including Cameroonian English (CamE), in shaping the nation's identity. In an era of globalisation and increasing human mobility, we will also study the profound impact of migration on the linguistic landscape of new environments. By studying these transformations, students will gain a deeper understanding of the complex relationship between linguistic identities and contemporary societal changes in the Cameroonian context.
