This course offers a comprehensive exploration of Cameroonian English (CamE) as a distinct linguistic variety. Cameroonian English, shaped by Cameroon's unique socio-cultural context, serves as a compelling case study in the study of language, culture and identity. Through a mixture of theory and practical examples, students will immerse themselves in the complex dynamics of language in Cameroon. The course begins by examining Cameroonian English in the global context of English language variation, highlighting its distinctive features and evolution. We will then explore how Cameroonian English co-exists and interacts with other languages in the Cameroonian linguistic context, including its fusion with Cameroonian Pidgin English and Camfranglais.
