This course deals with the history of Hebrew language pedagogy within the Zionist project and investigates contemporary challenges and shifts in the field. Through three case studies focusing on Hebrew learners from former USSR countries, Arab and Palestinian learners, and African asylum seekers, we will analyze the connections between ideology and language pedagogy.
By the end of the course, students will be familiar with various sociological phenomena in Israel within the context of Hebrew language instruction and acquire the ability to identify manifestations of ideology in language curriculum.
Active participation, weekly reading and a final paper.
