Kommentar	<p> </p><p>This intensive course explores the global history of refuge-seeking processes, examining both the challenges faced by refugees and migrants and the opportunities they create in receiving societies. It considers the diverse ways in which host populations have responded to migration over time—from the arrival of the Huguenots in Brandenburg-Prussia in 1685 to the present day—and across different regions, including France, Australia, Uganda, Ethiopia, and Germany. The course also foregrounds the perspectives, responses, and visions of migrants and refugees themselves.</p><p data-start="798" data-end="1277">Bringing together students from European universities within the European Digital UniverCity (EDUC) alliance, the course combines online learning (15.April 2026, 8:30-10:00am; 10.June 2026 8:30-20:00) with an in-person component in Potsdam from 01–07 June 2026. During this week, students will engage directly with local decision-makers, representatives from civil society and churches, as well as migrants and refugees, gaining first-hand insights into contemporary practices and debates surrounding migration and integration. </p><p data-start="1279" data-end="1584">In preparation, students will be introduced to key theoretical approaches to integration before examining historical and contemporary case studies. These will address themes such as culture, religion, racism, education, and labour, particularly in relation to assimilationist and multicultural frameworks.</p><p data-start="1586" data-end="1910">Overall, the course aims to equip students with the conceptual and analytical tools needed to understand historical and present-day dynamics of refuge-seeking and integration. It also fosters a dynamic exchange between students’ perspectives and practitioners’ experiences in the context of integration processes in Potsdam.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p>
