Pronunciation is much more than just articulating and producing sounds – the way sound is used in language is highly patterned. This course examines phonological phenomena relating to vowels, consonants, syllables, tone, stress and feet in a wide variety of the world’s languages. Additionally, different approaches to phonological theory and analysis are introduced, such as autosegmental phonology and Optimality Theory. The language of instruction for the course is English. Bring your laptops/devices as we will work on some exercises during the lectures.
